Parcours or Free Running: our boys love it!
"Parkour (French pronunciation: [paʁˈkuʁ]) (abbreviated PK) is a training discipline focused on overcoming obstacles, involving moving from point A to point B in the fastest and most efficient way possible. It combines a variety of movements like running, climbing, swinging, vaulting, leaping, and rolling. Popularised in France by David Belle and others in the 1990s and 2000s, parkour uses no equipment and is non-competitive.
A male practitioner is often called a "traceur", a female a "traceuse"". (Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parkour)
Our boys really enjoy free running and sometimes it can "freak" out other parents we know because it looks a bit wild but knock on wood, our boys have taken to it and there have been no accidents...yet. So far they do it in pretty controlled settings like by the Five Guys in Ashburne and over here in Brussels. But if they see just the right size thing to jump off of, they will try parcours just about anywhere in the world we travel! We found a perfect venue in Brussels and go every day for some PE. It's fun to watch how the boys can use their bodies. Luckily their rock climbing coach taught them how to fall safely and properly! Cousin Paolo was really impressed when he saw them at the Island playground in Torino and Simona said that little Umbi was "stupified"!
